Children are the essential condition to realize children’s literature. However, their existence is too obvious that it often gets unnoticeable. After the late 1990’s, the topic of ‘the discovery of children’ has stimulated the reflection on the conventional recognition of children and changed the paradigm of the study of children’s literature greatly. This study verifies the basic problematics of the recent studies on the children’s literature of the formative period in the center of the topic of ‘the discovery of children’ and examines their performance and limitations.
The recent studies on the children’s literature of the formative period have suggested new study subjects through some of the issues. First, they suggested the necessity of basic demonstrative works through the arguments on initial creative children’s stories. Second, they presented an issue of how to set the relations between children and literature through the arguments on the origin of children’s literature. Third, they proposed a task to establish a direction of the discoursal practice for children’s literature through the evaluation of the children’s magazines in the 1910’s.

However, such studies still remain in the initial state, so systematic study methods need be found in order to propel the studies far more speedily. Related to this, it is thought that studies between school systems should be actively performed.
