Lignin, a complex natural polymer composed of phenolic monomers, has been produced as a waste of paper industry and used as a low-quality fuel in the pulping process or an additive to the construction materials. Although the possible production of aromatic monomers and carbon-rich fuels from lignin has been suggested, the poor processability of lignin, including difficult depolymerization and high viscosity of its depolymerized liquid products, to any useful products suppresses the valorization of lignin in the industry scale.
