Abundant ozone at high stratospheric levels absorbs ultraviolet
radiation from the sun, greatly affecting the energy budget of the
northern and southern hemispheres. Large-scale circulation caused by
changes in polar temperature and atmospheric pressure trends due to recent
global warming, affects vorticity changes around Antarctica, thereby
depleting stratospheric ozone. There is a consequence of a stronger
tendency to transport into the troposphere. The height of the tropospheric
interface is considered to have a significant long-term effect on the
surface climate as well as the accelerating greenhouse effect in thetroposphere along with cooling of the upper tropospheric air. Therefore,
we conducted a study to quantitatively analyze the amount of ozone that
is transported and descended from the stratosphere among the ozone
observed in the troposphere in the Antarctic region, and to identify the
cause of the mechanism. Also at that region, it is essential to verify
the accuracy of observations due to the harsh condition environment. Since
the basis for understanding can be formed, a study was conducted to verify
using the ground-based ozone observation equipment. After that, the trend
and quantitative result analysis of stratospheric ozone penetration into
the troposphere using ozone sonde data and MERRA-2 reanalysis field data
observed in four Antarctic regions was performed.
